To the Egyptians, the afterlife was much more important than life on Earth. And since the afterlife was eternal, it makes sense that they would have prepared themselves for the long haul, by preparing their tombs with all of the goods that they would need to be comfortable. And I think that the Egyptians built their temples and funerary architecture to last because they were enshrining their beloved rulers, who were supreme beings.
