Personally, I am fascinated by mummification. The process, the reason behind it, and the entire ritual that went with it. And the fact that mummies are still uncovered today in a relatively well-preserved state tells me that the Egyptians truly knew what they were doing!

I was moderately surprised to see so many people voted for the engineering and technological advances of the Egyptians as I had. I read a recent article somewhere talking about a form of electricity the egyptians had that they used for healing. Amazing!

I think it was the funerary architecture. They built their living quarters (even palaces) in mud-brick yet their funerary buildings were built to last forever. Why did they put such store in the afterlife? Having been inside pyramids, temples and necropolis it really makes you wonder why they designed such magnificent tombs!

To the Egyptians, the afterlife was much more important than life on Earth. And since the afterlife was eternal, it makes sense that they would have prepared themselves for the long haul, by preparing their tombs with all of the goods that they would need to be comfortable. And I think that the Egyptians built their temples and funerary architecture to last because they were enshrining their beloved rulers, who were supreme beings.
