» Feature Writer Rosemary Drisdelle - Mars

I read the other day that the days of the week are named after the planets - presumably one of them is named after Mars, though which one it would be isn't intuitively obvious to me. Do you know anything about this?

In response to Mars posted by rdrisdelle:
The days of the week and the planets are actually named after the major gods of the Roman Pantheon. The names of the days of the week passed through Old English, and the changes are reflected in the words we use for the days today.

I am posting a blog entry on these origins, if you want to know more! Thanks for the idea!
