:-) Whether she was a lesbian or not, Sappho seems to have made Lesbos an icon for gay women that they regard as friendly territory.

I don't think it matters - I regard same sex relationships as part of the normal range of human sexuality, then, now, and in the future. In the end, she was a woman like the rest of us (and a great woman at that).
