Chris and I were entralled by Rome. We watched the entire series over a weekend. I thought everything from the sets to costumes, were terrific, you could practically smell the place. I don't know how historically accurate it is. I'd guess pretty accurate, with some aspects fictionalized for drama. And Pullo was alternately the luckiest and unluckiest guy there, but always entertaining.-- posted by ErinCS

It is actually very accurate. It does have a bit of a Titanic quality about it, in that fictional characters are embedded in the historical context. But, Pullo and Lucius Vorenus were real people, though there roles in the show have been played up a bit. In fact, Caesar actually mentions Lucius Vorenus in his historical writings.
Everything seems to have been done with painstaking historical accuracy, including costuming and sets. I even noticed that the mirrors the female characters use have the look of the highly polished lead, which is very true to Roman culure.
It is one of my guilty pleasure tv shows!! Things should really be heating up now that J.C. is dead, especially with Cleopatra. I wonder how they will handle Cleo's death, whether they will go with convention an have her commit suicide, or go with what history seems to have implied, and have Octavian off her??

I'm wondering where they're going too. They've filmed I think 4 episodes of the next season so far. Does Servilia get revenge on Atia? Or does Atia rally--she seems awfully resilient
We watched a little of the behind the scenes stuff, and one of the producers mentioned that Pullo and Lucius Vorenus were the only two regular soldiers mentioned in Ceasar's writings, which is why they were featured in the series. I loved the scene with Pullo and Cleo going at it with the servents ululating.
I was kind of shocked when Niobe killed herself. That guilt must have been eating her up. Or she thought that Lucius would kill her when he was fiddling with that knife.

Yes, I was shocked when Niobe killed herself, too. I wonder what will happen to the boy? I suppose Lucius will raise him.
The show is very addictive, and I can't wait for it to return. Any idea when it's premiering?

Lucius was very fond of him when he thought of him as his grandchild. Which reminds me...after the big interview with his daughter and the boy/supposed father and his agreeing to let them marry, it was sort of dropped. Did they mention it or were we just to infer that after he got promoted (so to speak) the kid was no longer good enough to marry his daughter?
