December 7, 43 B.C. - Roman orator and writer Cicero dies on this date in ancient history. Known as one of the most prominent Latin orators ever, Cicero was a fierce proponent of the Roman Republic, and campaigned hard to keep it in place. After opposing Mark Antony upon the assassination of Julius Caesar, Cicero was hunted down and beheaded by Antony's men.

December 8, 65 B.C. - Roman poet Horace is born on this date in ancient history. He was widely regarded as one of the greatest Latin poets, penning such works as Ars Poetica and Carmen Saeculare.
