January 15, 588 B.C. - Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II invades Jerusalem in an invasion that lasted a year and a half, and saw the destruction of the city, the Temple, and the forcible deportation of many people of Jerusalem to Babylon.

January 15, A.D. 69 - On this date, the first Emperor during the Year of the Four Emperors, Galba, is killed by his own people.

January 15, A.D. 69 - On this date, Otho proclaims himself Emperor of Rome. As the second Emperor in the Year of the Four Emperors, he lasts only three months, killing himself in the chaos that was Rome at the time.

January 15 - The second day of the Carmentalia was celebrated in Rome on this date.

January 16, 27 B.C. - On this date, Octavian is given the title Augustus by the Senate of Rome.
