Legendary movie director Roman Polanski has been set to direct a mulit-million dollar adaptation of the book POMPEII, written by Robert Harris. The book is a fictionalized account of the last days of Pompeii, before it was buried in the ash of the August 24, A.D. 79 eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. Harris is set to write the script for the movie, which is a thriller that centers around a Roman engineer.
I'm all for serious films set in Ancient History. I can willingly suspend my disbelief when history is changed or made up for the sake of creativity and art, as long as it doesn't seem sarcastic. I will eagerly anticipate this latest effort, which will hopefully be at least as good as Gladiator, and better than Alexander!
