April 16, 69 A.D. - Roman Emperor Otho commits suicide by plunging a dagger into his heart. His trusted guards/soldiers pay homage to him at his funerary pyre by killing themselves as well. Otho ruled Rome for only 3 months, and was the 2nd Emperor in the "Year of the Four Emperors".
April 17, 69 A.D. - Vitellius is named the new Roman Emperor. He outlasts his predecessor by 5 months, ruling from April through December. He was number 3 in the "Year of the Four Emperors".
April 17, 487 A.D. - Greek Philosopher Proclus dies. Known as a Neoplatonist, Proclus had a profound influence on early Christian principles and teachings.
April 21, 753 B.C. - Rome is founded (at least traditionally) by Romulus.
