Etruscan ruins near ruin

A famed Etruscan necropolis in Italy is in danger of destruction. And the root cause is not chemical or human this time.

Time and environment are often enemies of most of the great ruins of the ancient world. And the few physical remnants of the Etruscan civilization are not immune to such ravages, either. Where it is possible to restore or even preserve what is left of many of the great monuments (the Parthenon has been undergoing a massive restoration for years now), it seems that there is little hope for the Etruscan tombs, thanks to plant roots.

This article illustrates how our link to the Etruscans might be lost forever due to Mother Nature.

It is also a good illustration of the type of tombs that I have discussed in previous articles on the Etruscans.
