Kekrops, also spelled Cecrops, was the legendary first king of Athens. According to Greek mythology, he was half man/half snake, and was known for having roused the Athenian people to have great pride in the heritage and city. He was worshipped on the Athenian Acropolis, around the location of the Erechtheion.

He is also thought to have judged the contest for Athens' patronage between Athena and Poseidon.
