Definition of the Glossary term Iolaus
Iolaus was the son of Iphicles, and the nephew of the Greek hero Heracles (Iphicles' twin brother). Iolaus was instrumental in Heracles' completion of his second labor, to slay the Lernaean Hydra. He was worshipped in the Greek town of Thebes, with the gymnasium named after the hero.
