Definition of the glossary term Tura limestone

Tura limestone came from the ancient Egyptian site of Tura, which was the location of Egypt's primary limestone quarry.

Tura limestone was considered the best limestone in all of Egypt, and it was highly regarded for its gleeming white polish. It was used in the Old Kingdom era for the pyramids and tombs of the royal and elite, as well as for the floors and ceilings of other Egyptian tombs, known as mastabas.
