The Euphrates River is one of two rivers that established ancinet Mesopotamia. The Euphrates is the western river, and the eastern river is the Tigris. The Euphrates River is about 1700 miles long.
Several influential civilizations of ancient history were situated on the banks of the Euphrates, and depended upon it for its water, including Sumeria, Babylonia, and Assyria.
