The definition of the glossary term amphitheater
Amphitheater is the term given to a building constructed during the Classical period of ancient history. An amphitheater was a public building where spectator sports, gladiator games, and other public sporting events took place. Roman amphitheaters were spread far and wide throughout the empire, and most Roman cities had even a small one. The most famous Roman Amphitheater is the Colosseum in Rome, completed by the Emperor Titus in A.D. 80.
