Definition of the glossary term portico

In Classical architecture, a portico was a walkway with a roof supported by a row of columns. It was usually the front row of the colonnade.

Examples of ancient monuments featuring porticoes include the Roman Pantheon, the Parthenon, and the Stoa of Attalos in Athens.
